Recovery & comeback
What happened to Jeremy Renner

On New Year’s Day 2023, Jeremy Renner was crushed by a snowcat weighing roughly 14,000 pounds near his home outside Reno, Nevada. He had been using the vehicle to free a family member’s car from the snow when it began to slide toward his nephew — Renner was pulled under it while trying to stop it. He survived with more than thirty broken bones, a collapsed lung and severe chest trauma, and later said he could see his own eye with the other.
What followed became one of the most closely watched recoveries in Hollywood. Within weeks he was posting updates from his hospital bed; within months he was walking red carpets, first with a cane and then without one. He has credited his daughter Ava, his family and pure stubbornness — “I refuse to be haunted by that memory,” he wrote.
In April 2025 he told the whole story himself in My Next Breath, a memoir that became a New York Times bestseller — the accident, the recovery, and what it changed in him. If you want the story in his own words, that book is where it lives.
